Marine Notice 15 Course

NMCI is offering a Marine Notice 15 course to all qualified applicants commencing in September 2010.

The cost of the course has been fully funded with ISEAS funding support, administered by the Irish Maritime Development Office. There are, of course, some terms and conditions but as they say 'no sneaky ones'. See Marine Notice 15 of 2004 for details.

This course runs for 5 weeks starting with a Medical Care course. This is followed by a NaRAS – M course and preparation studies for the DoT Oral examination.

This is an opportunity for holders of an OOW Cert, with at least six months seatime as an OOW, to upgrade his/her qualification to an STCW 78/95 Regulation II/2 Certificate of Competency as Chief Mate on vessel's of less than 3000 gross tonnage in the unlimited area at minimum cost.

Currently there are more than 6000 of these ships on the EU Register. It will facilitate the promotion of a number of Second Mates with, for example, Arklow Shipping, Carisbrooke, Scotline or the mega yacht fleets to the rank of Chief Officer on some of these ships. The experience as Mate and of course the extra money is very valuable in these recessionary times.

The qualification does not in any way effect (increase or decrease) the 12 months sea time requirement to obtain CMM unlimited.
